OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for maintaining strategic objectives and targets that are linked with the corporate targets and its corresponding corporate goals. As a member of line management, the General Foreman is charged with the direction and coordination of all production operations to produce products of high quality and reliability at optimum cost, and in accordance with customer shipping schedules. Operations include processing, testing, shipping, re-work and scrap. Duties include directing and coordinating activities that will continue to improve plant performance. Specific activities that directly reflect supervisor performance include: process improvements in changeovers, understanding and enforcing standardization, complete working knowledge of Kaizen. They will facilitate employee involvement activities, understand safety/environmental policies and procedures and comply with all production operations, establish priorities and sequences for Kaizen due to unforeseen downtime, work as a team member with quality, maintenance, production control and continuously improve safety. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Actively supervise and assist foreman in the manufacturing of counterweight products on shift and with various tasks and problems. Interview, hire and train employees; plan, assign and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees, address complaints & resolve problems. Evaluate performance reviews developed by foreman for continuous improvement. Coordinate plant operations and maintenance activities by setting maintenance priorities to guarantee production requirements. Ensure all production data is gathered and reported correctly on a daily basis. Lead quality improvement efforts and support & improve upon quality initiatives designed to meet plant goals. Ensure safety programs are implemented effectively, reviewed regularly and revised as necessary. Identify areas where safety issues could arise and take measures to proactively address the concerns. Monitor and maintain optimal plant running conditions and make necessary mechanical, personnel, and physical changes to ensure an effective operating environment. Actively pursue measures to reduce downtime on production equipment (setup times, machine efficiency, etc.) Monitor training progress to ensure that associates training plans are being followed Audit Foreman activity to establish performance standards, provide monthly feedback in regards to the company’s philosophy on Quality, Cost and Delivery Coordinate with scheduler and Foreman to ensure daily production requirements are achieved. Participate and communicate as a functional TEAM member. Conduct one's self in a manner that is reflective of the Company's policies on harassment, discrimination, etc. Facilitate and enforce the provisions of the Quality Objective’s. Oversee the plant's housekeeping programs on shift. Take measures to ensure the quality of products are produced. Ensure that the crews are performing the designated quality inspections and are following the standard operating procedures. Assist with pattern repair problems and/or repair. Stay informed of operational advances in the industry. Build a TEAM among the supervisory and hourly work force. Attend workshops to enhance the converting, training, safety, communication, quality and productivity capabilities of the plant. Qualifications: • High School Diploma or equivalent • 5 years supervisory experience primarily in manufacturing • Must have a mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and diagnose problems with moving equipment, conveyor systems, and production machine noise • Ability to work well in group situations and foster open communication and champion change • Ability to deal effectively with conflict in professional and consistent manner • Prior experience working with Kaizen or Continuous Improvement work teams • Lean principles background is a plus • General computer skills • Build employee effectiveness Working Conditions: Work area is normally in a shop floor environment, with some time spent in a heat/ air-conditioned in an office-type environment. Hard-hat, safety glasses, earplugs, steel-toed boots are required on production floor.
