Purpose The Principal Microprocessor Designer will work as an integral part of the Processor Design team to design, verify, & debug future generation ARM microprocessors. Key Accountabilities Requirements analysis, micro-architecture specification and design of key units within microprocessor Creation of Verilog high-level model and relevant documentation. Interaction with Modeling, Validation, and Implementation teams to close performance, functionality, frequency, power and area targets Technical interaction with customers and Support team as required Job Requirements Experience Prior microprocessor design experience is required. An ideal candidate will have 10+ years of work experience in microprocessor design including several processor design cycles completed Technical Attributes Applicants should have some knowledge through courses or work experience in most of the following areas: CPU micro-architecture including knowledge of areas such as pipelines, memory system hierarchies, branch prediction and exception handling Verilog or VHDL, preferably coupled with design synthesis targeted to achieve specified frequency, power, and area targets Fundamentals of VLSI design and logic design Assembly language programming for ARM or other architectures Good fundamental understanding of microprocessor implementation including what is implied in the RTL design in terms of frequency, power, and area as well as understanding processor floorplans and their impact on the design Knowledge of CPU performance modeling using a higher level language like C is a plus General Attributes It is essential for the successful applicant to: Work well in a team environment Have excellent written and verbal communication skills Be motivated to continuously develop skills and accept a variety of responsibilities as part of contributing to the design center’s success Education MS or BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
